My first post of 2021 just had to be my most anticipated reads of the year, hopefully I will not forget the books I want to buy when it comes to the middle of the year - like I usually do. Whilst the year of 2020 had a lot of negatives, one of the good things that came from it was that I fell back in love with reading again - and now I have a list of books I absolutely cannot wait to purchase this year.
First, we have The Box In The Woods by Maureen Johnson. I recently got the first three books in the Truly Devious series for Christmas (expect reviews on them in the first half of the year) - I absolutely love the sound of the series (kinda reminds me of the A Good Girl's Guide To Murder series) and I love Maureen Johnson so I can't wait to get started.
A series I discovered in 2020 was the Cursebreaker trilogy and A Vow So Bold And Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer is the final book in the series and I cannot wait for it's release date. My Instagram is absolutely full of praise for the first two books and my review of the second book will be out next week. Picture a Beauty and the Beast re-make but darker - yes it is incredible.
Next we have Kill Joy by Holly Jackson, another series that I started in 2020 is the A Good Girl's Guide To Murder series - I mean everyone loves it right? Kill Joy is a prequel to the main series but still follows the main character (who is incredible) so I absolutely cannot wait for this one! YA mystery is definitely a new favourite of mine.
Our first non-YA addition comes from Beth O'Leary (I think most people picked up The Flatshare in 2020 right?) and her new offering The Road Trip. I adored The Flatshare and I still have The Switch to read but I think O'Leary has one of the most binge-worthy writing styles I've ever read so without even knowing the plot, this makes it on to my list.
One of my favourite reads of 2020 is Enchantee by Gita Trelease, it was an incredible first book and ever since I've been dying to get my hands on the second. Liberte is the second and final book set in the French Revolution with magical elements - it definitely deserves more hype than it has received.
Finally, one of my favourite author discoveries of 2020 is Cassandra Clare - I read The Infernal Devices series this year (I will be writing a full review on the series as a whole - some mix feelings on the ending, so it will not be spoiler free). The Last Hours series is set after The Infernal Devices but before The Mortal Instruments (considering I hadn't even heard of Clare this time last year - I'm proud I've finally understood this timeline). I already have Chain of Gold which is the first book in this series, I'm hoping to get that read before Chain of Iron comes out this year.
There are a bunch of other books I want to read this year that haven't made this list, and probably many that I don't even know are coming out. Have you got any books your looking forward to this year?
Thanks for reading, Rhi x.
